Our Story
Coffee worth knowing by name.
Contour Coffee was built around a single conviction: the best coffee in the world comes from specific places — specific farms, specific harvests, specific people — and it deserves to be understood on those terms. Not as "dark roast" or "smooth finish," but as a Washed Sidama from the Bombe woreda, or a Natural Kerinci from Sumatra's Jambi highlands. The origin is the product.
We source single-origin coffees with full traceability. That means knowing the country, the region, the processing station or cooperative, the harvest season, and the farmer or farming group behind every bag we offer. We work with specialty importers who share that standard — people who cup extensively, pay fairly, and maintain the relationships that make the information reliable. We don't use the phrase "direct trade" loosely, and we don't use it for every coffee we carry. What we can say about every coffee we carry is that we know exactly where it came from.
We roast in Lakewood, Colorado, in small batches, to order. That means the coffee you receive was roasted within days of the moment it ships — not weeks ago, not sitting in a warehouse. Roast dates are printed on every bag. We think they matter.
Our roast approach skews light to medium — we're after clarity and origin character rather than caramelization. A good Kenyan should taste like a Kenyan, not like a generic "bright, fruity coffee." A good Ethiopian natural should be distinct from a Colombian washed. The roast serves the origin. That's the entire philosophy.
Specialty coffee has a technical definition: a green bean scored 80 or above by trained Q-graders on a 100-point scale. Everything we carry meets or exceeds that bar. But specialty also means something less formal: coffee that repays attention. Coffee worth reading the label on. We try to make that easy — every product page on this site has sourcing notes, processing method, tasting cues, and suggested brewing parameters. We want you to know what you're drinking and why it tastes the way it does.
